The National Association works with Provincial Chapters in a mutually beneficial relationship. Each Chapter operates under the bylaws of RAC, but are unique, having their own Board of Directors, Committees and Groups. Chapters are an excellent way to serve the interests of Reflexologists in every area of Canada and provide the means, by which members can participate in the Association at every level.

Membership in the Reflexology Association of Canada is not required to become a member of B.C. Chapter, however registration is required on the national level to become registered in the Canadian Registry of Reflexologists held by the National Association.

The first meeting of the B.C. Chapter was held on June 6, 1992, in the basement of the home of Ollie Bailey, a woman with a passion for Reflexology. Since its inception the Chapter has gone through many stages and periods of growth starting with a membership of one to more than 100 today.

The mission of the B.C. Chapter is to:

  • maintain continual professional development and professional standards of excellence and competence among it's membership
  • unify British Columbia Reflexologists in professional educational programs and services
  • support and help it's membership through other beneficial programs
  • provide a supportive environment for mentorship and camaraderie among the membership
  • provide and enforce a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for the benefit of Reflexologists and their clients
  • advance the understanding and knowledge of Reflexology to society as a whole

B.C. Board of Directors
Chairperson

Rod Westaway, RCRT

I am currently working as a Reflexologist, and a Clavitherapist, integrating Kinetics to further express these modalities. Being self employed since 2003 by creating a business in residential siding, which I sold last year, to focus on my Reflexology business. I have also had eight years of management experience operating within a grocery distribution center in Calgary. I have been practicing the healing arts since 2007, with desires to be in the health field since a teenager. Life happened with all its wonderful distractions, and now I'm back integrating this work at a personal level, as well, to improve my potentials as a practitioner. I am now working with my wife Cora in our home based business incorporating my training with her successful business of 17 years, which is Esthetics, Massage, Spa services and a Boutique.

ISLAND REFLEXOLOGY - PARKSVILLE, B.C.

Patricia began researching Reflexology after her son passed away in 2006.

I first went for a session to experience it first hand and realized how great I felt after. I knew this would be something I would love to do. I found a teacher through RAC (Reflexology Association of Canada) and started my training soon after. My teacher, Linda Baril had been a Reflexologist for 16 yrs. at that time. She was and is very knowledgeable in her field of expertise. Upon completing the course and the practicum that followed I started a mobile service. As my clientele grew I found an office downtown Parksville and opened, ”Island Reflexology”. I love Reflexology and it has been such a healing process for me. I love my clients and the work is so rewarding. I will continue to do Reflexology for many years to come.

Previously, Patricia was the owner of, “Patricia Lynn Productions” and was self-employed in the music business for many years. The most recent was a show she put together called, “Solitaire”, A Tribute to Neil Diamond. She has been a booking agent, Manager, in charge of hiring, payroll, sound & lighting, singer, backup singer, bass player, choreographer, & organized costumes and set direction, etc. Basically Patricia ran all phases of the business.

Patricia is a member in good standing with the Reflexology Association of Canada. She is also the Secretary on the Board of Directors for RAC-BC.

Mentor Director

Shirley Marcotte

Hi, my name is Shirley Marcotte and I am the new “Mentor Director” for BC Chapters. I was asked to write a short article about myself, as a way of introducing myself to BC Chapter Members.

I first became involved with reflexology through my Reiki healing practice back around the year 2000. I was working with one particular client and I was intuitively drawn to work on his feet. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about working on feet at this time, but did anyway. Right from that first session, I could see what reflexology could do for a person. I started reading different books on reflexology and practiced intuitively for the first few years, and I have never had another problem with working on people's feet again.

I was encouraged to open my own business within the natural healing arts in 2002-3, and felt it important to have proper training in the field of reflexology, before I could offer this service to the general public. So I researched about 4-5 different Reflexology Training Schools here in BC, and chose the Reflexology Association of Canada, as I felt that they had the better training program. After receiving my Certification in Foot Reflexology, I won the Ollie Bailey Excellence Award and chose to do the Ear Reflexology certification training.

I have been working with reflexology for about 11 years now, and I'm still amazed at how much

this simple technique can do for a person. It is my goal to become a RAC teacher someday, and teach others how to do this amazing healing art. This is one technique that can really help people become whole body aware, and encourages them to take a more proactive stance in their healing journeys.

My business, which I call “Uniquely Yours Wholistic Healing”, is based here in Williams Lake, and I work part-time and offer Reflexology, Reiki, Indian Head Massage, EFT, Guided Meditation sessions and other relaxation techniques. I also teach classes in Reiki Healing, Meditation and offer introductions into Reflexology, Indian Head Massage and other relaxation techniques, at various community events.

I have been asked by our local university (TRU) to speak about “Natural Healing” for the last three years to the LPN Nursing program, and earlier this year, also for the Bachelor of Science of Nursing program. When I get to the reflexology part of my talk, the students really enjoy hearing about and looking at the charts and foot models I bring with me to help better explain what reflexology is.

I became involved with the RAC BC Chapter association in 2003 and became the Membership Director in 2006, then Membership & Co-Chair Director in 2009. In April 2011 I decided to step back a little from the more leading positions with the board, but agreed to remind as Mentor Director until the new board no longer needs me.

Thank You to the New Board of Directors for stepping up and keeping RAC BC Chapter's alive and well.

Regards Shirley Marcotte - Mentor Director
